Cartoonist and artist Winsor McCay (1869-1934) is everywhere recently, I found this on Brain Pickings. “McCay is often considered one of the fathers of true animation, pioneering the drawn image in film and influencing iconic creators for generations to come. His celebrated Little Nemo comic strip appeared in the New York Herald and New York American newspapers between 1905 and 1911.

 

 

Animation had to start somewhere. This little video gives you an introduction to what was involved. Winsor McCay paved the way for Walt Disney and all who followed.
