Idan Friedman is an product designer and artist who sometimes works on throw-away aluminium trays. We expect these faces or portraits to be of Kings and Queens or maybe even a popular President – but they are usually of his friends or just ordinary people he meets in the street. The have a certain “currency” as we are so used to seeing embossed heads on the back of coins. If you do meet Idan Friedman in the street somewhere in Israel you might be lucky enough to end up on the bottom of an aluminium throw-away tray. Friedman likes working with the disposable object, but if I ever get my head embossed on one of his trays I’d sooner hang it on the wall than put a Shepard’s Pie in it.

Anyway the “throw-away tray” is an American concept, we recycle ours over here, thank you very much. Throw-away trays? we say, down with that sort of thing.
