What’s happening today in Japan is horrific. And it will only get worse.

But I watched the news tonight and I noticed Libya had been demoted to ‘part two’ of the news – that’s the part where she says “and coming in the second part of the nine o’ clock news…” the second part has a small bit of news, news that nobody is really bothered about, and then they follow that with some ‘flippantly funny story’ – by that I mean the blond, middle aged news reader, with the pink costume jacket and the OTT necklace has a lame joke, with the man about to read the sports news – who, you would be afraid to ask how much he spends on hair gel every week! ‘Elle Oh Elle’ – as they say in the texting thing.

Yep, tonight Libya was in the second part of the news, it had to be – because in the first part of the news we lapped up incredible footage of  live tsumani violence. We saw real people, you might mistake for ants, being washed away and cars tossed about in the swell like match sticks. But Gaddafi’s goings-on are no longer front page importance. So it goes – the same way a corrupt politician’s secretary will pray for plane crashes or earthquakes as the Press catch up on their employer’s scams.

Reporters Without Borders launched an ad campaign last year, pointing the finger at international Leaders/Criminals. This one captures Gaddafi (…If only someone would). Graphic designers Stephen J Shanabrook and Veronika Georgieva at Saatchi & Saatchi are responsible. It’s my favourite image of  Gaddafi – Satan crossed with Tommy Cooper (sorry Tommy!) and if we’re not careful all the good Libyans will be gone… “just like that”… as Tommy used to say.
