West Cork is an amazing place in itself – without any help from anyone else.

But the heady cocktail of interesting blow-ins with the already half-mad local set – you come up with something special. Spending a good bit of time there myself I have had the pleasure of meeting and drinking cocktails with a lot of them (well, pints anyway).

I was put in touch with the photographer E J Carr by a mutual friend and we got from the ‘get go’. He was full of energy and the conversation always flowed like a fast moving river. He has a very impressive portfolio on ejcphoto.com where shots of the very famous sit comfortably beside people you think you know but haven’t met. EJ has now settled back in Denver Colorado but he lived near Kilcrohane at the end of Sheep’s Head with his wife and two teenage children in 2009/10. While he was there – he worked mainly on landscape photography but had a few interesting mystical projects always bubbling away in the background. One of these was The Arthur Legend. As he went about his business EJ asked locals and blow-ins to pose as characters from the King Arthur saga. Here are some of the results below. This work is due out in book form soon in – collaboration with our own Jim Fitzpatrick – a sample of Jim’s words with EJ’s image below.
