I first heard the use of the term ‘Safe House’ in connection with the IRA and terrorism in the 70s and 80s in Ireland. It was usually an isolated farmhouse but could also be an ordinary house in a suburban housing estate. For the last 10 years we assumed that Osama Bin Laden (1957 – 2011) was living in a cave. This morning we found out he lived in a ‘Safe House’, more like a ‘Safe Mansion’, with 4m thick walls in a wealthy surburb of Abbottabad a town 30 miles from Islamabad and just walking distance from the main Pakistani Military Training College.
Now for something completely different – and nothing to do with Osama Bin Laden…
This building called โThe Safe House,โ is located in a village just outside Warsaw in Poland, it was designed by KWK Promes. The house, with its movable walls, has only one entrance, which is located on the second floor after crossing a drawbridge. It certainly brings new meaning to the expression “make sure you lock up before you leave”. [I saw this first HERE]
