I was looking for an image for “No. 46” – it’s not exactly a ‘catchy number’ – I was looking because Secondary School Teacher Niall MacMonagle is the 46th most influential person in Irish Education according to tomorrow’s Irish Times. Congratulations! Check out Niall’s Poetry Apps for the Leaving Cert HERE
Of the 50 on the list only two were working teachers and only five were women!
The criteria : Who exerts real power and influence in Irish education? Who shapes public policy? Who has the ear of the Minister? Who influences what happens in the classroom? Who leads and influences public debate? The Irish Times top 50 list is the first to identify and rank the main movers in Irish education.
When I was looking for a suitably whacky photo to advertise this post I keyed in No. 46 Bus – and expected to get a image of a Dublin Bus. But instead I got a blog post of a commuter in Jakarta – who in June 2008 posted “I went to office by bus no. 46 today. It’s kind of fun, because I haven’t do this for quite some time. Also, this is definitely cheaper than taxi :p” Well, I’m delighted for this happy person – and we should all take the bus more often.
I’m also happy to read that No 26 is The Finnish Education System see an earlier post HERE
By the way, Ireland has slipped in the OECD Literacy Tables from 5th to 20th, Ruairí Quinn The Minister for Education, called this a “wake-up call”.
