There was a big furore late last year when the clever people at GAP decided to change their logo. Below on the left is the old, now New again, logo and on the right is the logo that lasted candlelight, well, a week all told. GAP launched the logo after months of research but never anticipated the negative response. It was so bad that they withdrew the new logo and reinstated the old logo. You’d wonder if this was not orchestrated by GAP themselves – on the “no publicity is bad publicity” theory. But I have it from a reliable source that they just “f**ked up”. But it certainly showed GAP that they had a loyal following and the online response to the new logo couldn’t be ignored. “Ok. We’ve heard loud and clear that you don’t like the new logo,” the company said on its Facebook page (with 700,000 fans – can 700,000 fans be wrong?). “We only want what’s best for the brand and our customers. So instead of crowdsourcing, we’re bringing back the Blue Box tonight.” Yeah right!
