I did the leaving certificate in 1974. The play on the english course was Coriolanus. What a disappointment – I wanted Macbeth or Hamlet or even Romeo and Juliet, instead we got Coriolanus.

I had heard that there was a film being made and Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox were going to be in it and it was going to be directed by Ralph Fiennes – but what could they do with such a poor play? I was 16 when I did the leaving – so what would I know about Shakespeare?

I never got the play, but judging by this trailer I’m looking forward to seeing the film.
