Now – if there was an award for the “Great Gates of Ireland” this is surely the winner. I know it would win hands down in the ‘Gate at the end of a Country Lane” category. In the overall award “The Great Gate of Ireland” – where the grand houses and hotels – the likes of  Fota House or Mount Juliet might be in contention; this is the gate that would win. The judges would comment on its simplicity, delicate colour and its charm.

If you would like to make a pilgrimage to visit this gate and to see it for your self (it’s near Lough Hyne in West Cork) – leave a comment and I’ll give you the exact location. You can tell your pals “I’m off to visit the greatest gate in Ireland”…
