It’s always sad when a building, for whatever reason, goes into disrepair and eventually all you can do is to knock it down and start again. Then you need good architects with even better planners for the new build to work. There are some very ugly examples of new buildings mixed in with more vernacular architecture but that’s for another day. A big glass and steel building set in the middle of traditional architecture can work very well but  it depends on how it is done. When I came across this by the German Architect Soho, it looked great and so sensitive to the existing built environment. I’m pretty sure that Mr Warth next door was delighted and thought it fitted in perfectly with the street scape. The interiors are ultra modern.
