The quote “the elimination of the insignificant” by Frank Lloyd Wright appears on the home page of  Shinya Kimura’s website (www.chabottengineering.com) and when you watch the beautiful short video you will understand how this Japanese motorbike designer might like this quote. When I was in college there was a time, just for a few months, when three of us owned a motorbike together. It was a Yahama 90 and it took us (Me, Colm and Alice – all three of us sometimes) in and out of college and once all the way to the Wicklow mountains for a weird and memorable weekend, even though I only remember snippits. We took turns, two on the bike and one hitching – it seemed a very normal thing to do at the time.

Never got into bikes – but when I saw this – I kind of understand that thing that men of a certain age do. Call it what you want – a mid life crisis maybe? – but it is also about freedom and the open road and OK maybe the smell of leather?.
