Martin Scholler is a photographer that everyone wants to sit for. In this series Close-up he has taken a lot of well known people and photographed them – all in the same style. At first they look like simple passport photos but the more you look – the more they reveal. If I worked in passport control I’m not sure if I would leave any one of these through.

The less well known people (see video below) are almost more interesting but he seems to be able to strip people back to the basics and this is more obvious with the famous. It’s a long time since I saw Jack Nicholson without a smile or Paris Hilton looking so vaguely normal. Schollers previous work is also interesting, in particular his work with women body builders.
