The Waste Land

Faber have just launched The Waste Land app – video. It is wonderful and worth down loading just for the delivery of the opening line by Fiona Shaw.

“Faber takes TS Eliot into the 21st century today, with the launch, in association with Touch Press, of an iPad app of The Waste Land that includes a video performance of the poem, notes, commentary and readings from Fiona Shaw, Viggo Mortensen, Ted Hughes, and Eliot himself. But what can touch-screen tablets do for the classics? And could the saviour of publishing be battery powered?”

I downloaded this last night – on your recommendation – and I was blown away. The part set in the East End pub at the end of “A Game of Chess” is pure magic theatre.
