I’ve been driving an automatic car for years and I just can’t see the point of a manual. All I want is to sit in and drive off. When we got out first automatic I had no interest in hearing, from the car sales man, about the all features and gizmos. As far as I was concerned it was all very straightforward, it had two pedals – a bit like like Vidal Sassoon’s ShampooSTOP and GO. What more do you need to know? After a while, out on a Sunday drive I noticed a few letters – P, D and N – printed beside the gear sticky thing and wondered… Mmm. What can those letters mean … in a Homer sort of way… Park, Drive and Neutral. Doh!

Later when a voice from the back seat asked me what they were for – I said with parental authority ‘Park, Drive and Neutral’. As a joke, I added this car is so well designed – when I see a parking space – no matter how tight it is – all I have to do is drive up along side it and hit ‘P‘ and as if by magic, the wheels would all turn towards the kerb and the car would automatically drive itself into the tight parking slot.

And then years later I find this on You Tube.

I saw it first HERE
